L’ambizione del progetto European Digital Student Service Infrastructure (EDSSI) è quella di creare un’infrastruttura IT che connetta il programma di mobilità per le istituzioni dell’istruzione universitaria Erasmus+ al mercato digitale unico dell’Unione Europea.
L’infrastruttura fa leva sul concetto di “Once Only Principle” che dà la possibilità alla popolazione universitaria – studenti e staff – di autenticarsi e accedere a tutti i servizi legati alla mobilità e alle informazioni disponibili tramite un singolo login, ovunque si trovino. Pertanto, il progetto rafforza l’inclusività e contribuisce significativamente alla creazione della “European Education Area”¹.
EDSSI diffonderà l’utilizzo degli identificativi elettronici abilitati a eIDAS all’interno della “European Education Area”. D’ora in avanti, il progetto contribuirà alla creazione degli spazi comuni europei per la condivisione dei dati e al raggiungimento degli obiettivi del programma CEF per le tecomunicazioni supportando migliori connessioni e scambi di dati affidabili tra gli enti universitari e i fornitori terzi di servizi agli studenti.
Il nuovo sistema è pienamente allineato con gli obiettivi prefissati per la European Education Area, quali le iniziative relative alle European Universities e alla European Student Card. Al contempo, contribuisce e si fonda su una vasta gamma di iniziative per la digitalizzazione del mondo universitario, tra cui i progetti MyAcademicID, Erasmus Without Paper, European Student Card project, EMREX ed Erasmus+ App.
Il progetto è finanziato dal programma Connecting Europe Facility della Commissione Europea grazie all’accordo n. LC-01560120 CEF-TC-2019-4-001.

The EDSSI project
The ambition of the European Digital Student Service Infrastructure (EDSSI) project is to create an IT infrastructure that connects the Erasmus+ Higher Education mobility programme to the digital single market of the EU.
The infrastructure leverages the Once Only Principle so that higher education students and staff are able to authenticate themselves and access all mobility services and information available with a single login and regardless of their geographical location. Thus, the project strengthens inclusivity and contributes substantially to the delivery of the European Education Area¹.
The EDSSI will spread the usage of eIDAS enabled eIDs in the European Education Area. Henceforth, the project will contribute to the common European data spaces and the CEF Telecom objectives by supporting enhanced connections and reliable data exchanges among higher education institutions and third-party student service providers.
The new system is fully aligned with the goals set for the European Education Area, such as the European Universities and the European Student Card Initiative. Also, it contributes and builds up on a wide array of HE mobility digitisation initiatives, such as the MyAcademicID, Erasmus Without Paper, European Student Card project, EMREX or Erasmus+ App projects.
